The recent allegations of rape and debauchery at the hands of Mr. Weinstein are offensive and disgusting but unfortunately not surprising.
It is well known amongst aspiring models and actresses that they will be in contact with men ( and women ) who will take advantage of them if they allow it.
Its a reality in almost every aspect of life that there will be people who will try to take advantage of us. We must teach our children to not allow others to bully them into doing things that go against their better judgement.
It starts with self worth and inner strength and this is very important for our young women to harness and hold close to their hearts.
The press has been quick to applaud the actresses that have come forth with their stories of horror while in the company of Mr. Weinstein. I beg to ask the question of Gwyneth, Kate and more, "Why didn't you warn the others" ?
As women who have a voice in Hollywood society why the hell didn't they speak out sooner and warn other young actresses that they could be raped and abused by this particular man.
I find it disgraceful and tacky to come forth now with tales of woe while many unknown women have suffered in silence and fear.
Was it the money? Was it the fame and contracts that have made these actresses look away and not step up and try to protect other women?

We do not know the full extent of the story as there are many other men who may be involved in this scandal and there may be young girls involved as well. How young? does anyone truly know ?
I can not imagine being in a situation within my industry where I know there is a rapist/ abuser preying on young girls and I say nothing because of the almighty dollar.

Harvey Weinstein is a degenerate but the women who had the power to speak out before now are somehow worse than he is. They should have raised their voices and spoken out to protect many other women from a very sad and abusive situation with a man they knew was responsible.

Hollywood may be a world unto itself but a rapist is a rapist anywhere they go, no matter what clothes they wear , language they speak or how much money they have.
Women need to stand united and protect our girls , we must lead through example even it it comes at a cost.
New
York’s Guggenheim Museum said it will not include three works in an
upcoming exhibition after they sparked the ire of animal rights groups.
The exhibition, “Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World,”
included three works that critics said promoted cruelty to
animals–including one called “Dogs That Cannot Touch Each Other,” which
reportedly included footage of pit bulls on treadmills.

The museum initially defended showing the works, saying it valued freedom of expression, but it said in a statement yesterday that threats of violence have forced it to reconsider out of concern for the safety of its visitors. It added that it is “dismayed” over having to basically self-censor its exhibition:

“Out
of concern for the safety of its staff, visitors, and participating
artists, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has decided against showing
the art works Dogs That Cannot Touch Each Other (2003), Theater of the
World (1993), and A Case Study of Transference (1994) in its upcoming
exhibition Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World. Although
these works have been exhibited in museums in Asia, Europe, and the
United States, the Guggenheim regrets that explicit and repeated threats
of violence have made our decision necessary. As an arts institution
committed to presenting a multiplicity of voices, we are dismayed that
we must withhold works of art. Freedom of expression has always been and
will remain a paramount value of the Guggenheim.”

An online petition denouncing the museum attracted more than 600,000 supporters as of today. You can learn more about the controversial works here. But as of now, you can’t actually see them at the Guggenheim.
It will be weeks before services such as electricity, water and cell service are back to normal and even longer for families who must replace all that they lost. It may be far quicker for those with financial means but for most it will be a waiting game for insurance adjusters, permanent lodging, clothing and furnishings. I can not fathom the distress for those who have no insurance and have lost it all.

The children from hurricane ravaged communities may be suffering in silence. In shock and overwhelmed by the scope of destruction that has turned their lives upside down.
We know that kids are resilient but the effects of sudden extreme loss and chaos have left many children feeling helpless and unable to voice their fears. They usually want to be strong for their parents and not cause additional problems, they just want things to go back to the way they were.

There are thousands perhaps millions of kids that have
lost their homes, belongings, pets and everything that gave them a sense
of security. Many of them will have to relocate to new neighborhoods
and schools. Their parents and family members are adults who are
stressed, panicked and exhausted.

The concern for these kids should be addressed quickly as part of the recovery efforts as they are not equipped to handle the roller coaster of emotions that surround them.

I
am an only child and remember how everything that affected my Mother
and family concerned and affected me. I felt powerless to make it better
for her and didn't understand how I could make things easier.
The children of the storms need a sense of normalcy, calm
and support. Their needs are physical, psychological and emotional.

I work with Ocean Outreach a non profit organization that educates students about the oceans, environment and personal growth through exploring the world around them, under water and above. I lecture to kids about my work and experiences in expeditions and exploration to help them overcome their fears about facing challenges and learning through experiences that take them outside of their comfort zones.

The children of the storms need a sense of normalcy, calm and support. Their needs are physical, psychological and emotional and they need to be addressed quickly.

It is my hope that schools employ mental health professionals, support groups, after school programs and presentations that can help them cope with their losses, empower them with storm survival tools and applaud their bravery, strength and resilience. This is the time to inspire young minds with positive thoughts and feelings about their future and not fear.

This is a very trying and confusing time and our children need to get back to school and surround themselves with their own network of kids and positive support.
I am confused by the constant reporting and whining coming from Florida residents through media about the sun and heat?
All I ever heard during my time ( 8 plus years) between home in NYC and Key West was how everyone loves living in Paradise and the Jimmy Buffet lifestyle nothing about the extreme heat.

The reality is that its damn hot and humid every day of the year and its not pleasant if you are not a HOT weather person and even less pleasant for those who live without AC.

Luckily KW did not suffer the devastation that Cudjoe, Summerland and Big Pine ( MM 14,15) Keys have.
The flooding from a hard rain normally causes road issues in these areas but they don't last long.
This storm has paralyzed these communities for months and possibly years to come.

Its very sad for the residents who have lost everything as they are the ones who had the least.
KW is a community with expensive housing and higher property values, the people who work in the tourist hospitality, restaurant, hotel and domestic cleaning industries can not afford to live in KW proper and they commute into town on a daily basis for work. I would see them every day waiting in the hot sun for buses in and out of town.

Has anyone noticed the demographic in KW is not very "international" " varied" ? It is not a very mixed community as you find in the Upper Keys.
It is heartbreaking to see the devastation and acknowledge the long road ahead for so many people, pets and children.

We must not forget the loss of life and tragedy that has affected Texas and the islands in the Caribbean in addition to Florida. There are desperate people in need of aid to rebuild their lives.
Donations are needed, please contact organizations that are delivering help.
It is surprising to hear and read about the people that stayed behind in Key West to "ride out the storm"............one word for this : IGNORANCE

It escapes me as to why anyone would want to remain on an island or in their homes when told to evacuate. There area a myriad of comments from people who claim they have stayed behind but not sure why, they just felt compelled to stay.
It is not an easy nor comfortable decision to leave your home and belongings but it may save your life.
If you ride out the storm and are fortunate enough to survive you will be
battered and exhausted and become an extra person that will need to be
supplied and looked after which adds to the burden on an already over stressed
recovery system.

It is disheartening to read posts such as this from the Miami Herald depicting Florida Key residents anger, lack of cooperation and understanding for the task at hand by Law enforcement.

Fury at the Keys as residents denied access

12:00 p.m.:
Tensions ran high at the entrance to the Florida Keys late Monday
morning as families waited in the heat to return home. Some still hadn’t
heard from friends and relatives who had stayed behind.

Officials from the Monroe
County Sheriffs Office said they were only letting utilities companies
and a few contractors from the Department of Transportation pass. But
after two unmarked cars went through the checkpoint, Keys residents
waiting at a RaceTrac gas station erupted in protest.

“That’s bullshit!” a bearded Keys resident, who refused to give his name, shouted at the police. “Those people are tourists!”

When a deputy sheriff approached him, the man put his hands behind his back and dared the official to arrest him.

“People are dying in there. They’re thirsty, they’re hungry,” he told the official.

“I say we all just get in
the car and drive. What are they going to do? Shoot us?” another man
yelled to the others waiting at the gas station.

“This stuff right here is
the reason why next storm they aren’t going to get people out of the
Keys,” said the man, who identified himself as a Cudjoe Key resident but
did not want to give his name. “I’ve been in the Keys for 40 years.
This is the first time I ever evacuated and it’ll be my last.”

The reality is that everyone in the keys will need help to rebuild, electricity and cell towers are down, water filtration systems are not working and its damn hot!

I hope those that stayed behind have solar power packs, water filtration tablets, basic canned and packaged foods. There are hospitals in the keys but in all honesty anyone who is really sick does not want to be treated in the Keys let alone during a major weather catastrophe.

It is a very difficult time for millions of people and animals throughout Texas, The Caribbean and now Florida. Unfortunately panic builds with lack of basic necessities and comforts we take for granted such as clean water, food, clothing, shelter. There is also a feeling of helplessness and not knowing what to do next. When people are not given tools to help them rebuild their lives they suffer physically and mentally which adds to the devastation of a natural disaster.

May calmness and patience prevail for the safety and well being of everyone affected.
Please donate to Disaster relief funds for both people and animals that are displaced and need our help.
I do not believe for a second that I can DO EVERYTHING and HAVE IT ALL. I have yet to meet a woman who can in spite of what many preach and write about , I personally do not think you can have it all.
If you do I applaud you but still believe that something or someone is shortchanged in the mix.
I will keep this blog brief as its direct and to the point.
Some may remember Kirk Cameron for being a cute Hollywood TV actor kid and some may not know him at all.
Kirk is out and about on his soapbox about the devastating and tragic hurricanes of the last week.
It seems he has the answer to why this is happening and that answer is......GOD and God is sending hurricanes our way because we need to be humble ???????
http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/kirk-cameron-says-god-sent-hurricanes-to-teach-us-humility/ar-AArw6Py?li=BBnb2gh&ocid=mailsignout

I do not think think this is the time to argue but I gather that KIRK is not a believer in Climate Change?

His ridiculous interview includes a link to donate to the Red Cross relief fund for victims but before you donate be informed and read this article in the New York Times
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/30/opinion/harvey-red-cross-donations.html?mcubz=3

I also suggest that donations be made to animal shelters that are helping the poor creatures that were left behind, misplaced, lost and injured .
Go to Petfinder.com and bestfriends.com to start

I would like to set up my own fund that keeps Kirk Cameron and closed minded individuals mouths SHUT to prevent their ignorance from spreading.

May all those in harms way remain safe and protected. The storm shall pass and the sun will shine again - literally and figuratively
Help however you can and support the victims, animal and human, who need to rebuild and have hope for a better tomorrow.
The history of women in the Explorers Club dates back to 1914 when it
held its first “Ladies Night” at the New York City HQ.
It was not until September 19, 1981 that a Freshman class of 16 women were honored
with membership into the all male club. These accomplished and illustrious women included aquanaut Dr. Sylvia Earle, Anna Roosevelt,
and astronaut Kathryn Sullivan.
The latest terror attack in Manchester has caused immeasurable anguish to a community and to the world. It is painful to watch, read and hear parents and family members pleading for information on loved ones that are missing and unaccounted for.
There is no logical explanation for hatred that encourages the massacre of innocent people.
Wishing everyone affected by this tragedy comfort and peace, may the world continue to stand united against those who preach and practice hate.
A personal Thank you to Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Robert DeNiro for joining us during our sold out event of 1200 VIP members and guests.

The evening's theme was COLD PLACES and was a salute to exploration, conservation, science and the work our membership is doing around the world.
The Explorers Club celebrated its 113th year with an impressive list of awardees which included their highest award being presented to the Solar Impulse pilots , Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg. Bertrand spoke of his ongoing efforts to educate citizens on the importance of sustainable energy as a profitable and viable business which will help save our planet.

Our student grants, outreach programs and inspirational videos and speeches were emotive and poignant. Our future rests in the hands of the next generation of explorers and being able to mentor, guide and assist them is a challenge and an honor.
Its a day to celebrate women around the world and all the pioneers who have come before us!

I personally believe that women should be celebrated every day. The work and contributions of great women throughout history are markers for how far we have come and how much we have yet to achieve.

Make a difference today, support and help a woman you love and admire and mentor women who may be in need of your time and particular expertise. Encouragement and support enhance life.
As we are getting close to Valentine’s Day, my thoughts are
naturally turning to romance — that includes the thrill of adventure and
the feeling of sharing those experiences with someone special.

I believe there are parallels between adventure and romantic
pursuits; in fact, many women have met their life partners while engaged
in adventurous outings around the world. When we find
ourselves in the outdoors and in remote regions of the world, we are
forced to face our vulnerabilities and our fears, which ultimately makes
us stronger and more sensitive to the people around us. It also
connects us to the beauty and vastness of our great planet.

I have spent many years traveling around the world (on my own and professionally) leading and organizing teams of
people — I have worked with men, women, and children of all ages. I have a unique
view on how to apply my expeditions “tools of the trade” advice to relationships and marriage.

Some of the most important lessons learned include the importance of the following:

Confidence

Independence

Compromise

Team Work

Patience

My advice before getting married or settling into a serious
relationship is to go out on an expedition, take a leadership course,
take a Nhttps://www.nols.edu/en/ trip, and learn how to manage what life throws at you when
you have nowhere to hide from the elements.

It will help in learning
that you shouldn’t sweat the small stuff — sweat the big stuff and do
the best you can.

<span style="font-family: "times"; font-size: 13.0pt;">Enter your relationship and
marriage as you would an expedition, move forward with love and passion and take on what you can handle.

<span style="font-family: "times"; font-size: 13.0pt;">Expect the unexpected and prepare to be challenged, frustrated, exhausted and sometimes out of your element but the rewards are worth it!

<span style="font-family: "times"; font-size: 13.0pt;">It takes team work to make a successful expedition and marriage and everyone is different, a positive attitude will weather any storm.

Life should be an adventure, and it’s exciting to share it with someone you love. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Even if you are not a PATRIOTS fan .......GO PATS!!
The game was "wicked Awesome" and therefore I dedicate my blog to the Eli Zabar Cookie that was our good luck charm which was positioned near the giant tv screen.
It was a great game (the last quarter) and it was historic as it became the first Superbowl to go into overtime and capture so much emotion.
Tom Brady is without a doubt a tremendous talent and godspeed for the year ahead, he clearly has the ability to keep playing in top form. It was also a pleasure to watch Roger Goodell eat crow and hand over the trophy after the past year of DEFLATE GATE.

Lady Gaga was great ( not fabulous) but I think I preferred the energy of Bruno Mars last year?
What are your thoughts on this ? Its a tough one as all the half time shows are fun to watch.

Gaga is talented and I love her (how can I not love a NYC gal with chutzpah)....she is the new face of Tiffany & Co and oh how I love Tiffany!!!

There were some funny commercials and some that were very poignant. I tried to log on to journey84 and the site must have crashed. I could not gain access and I am wanting to see how the story of the Mexican mother and daughter ends....it had better be good as I was emotional watching the commercial.
I found the Anheuser Busch commercial interesting and appropriate as it was about an All American product having been started by an immigrant.

History Lesson 101 America- we are all here because of immigrants!! The only REAL Americans were the native Indians that were mercilessly slaughtered because they had darker skin and were considered savages. Have we really come a long way or not?

Happy Monday to all and especially to all my New England friends and fellow Patriots!
Go PATS!
A big THANK YOU to Red Fox and writer Vince Winkel for his recent article on an underwater discovery and the team I am proud to have worked with.

The story focus is on my participation and work but it is far reaching because it involves our oceans and the precious things that we forget are beneath the surface.

Our worlds oceans contain life, death, treasure and history and they must be protected.
Please read the story below and follow the work and efforts of conservation and outreach as best you can.
It is important to educate and share knowledge with others and remember that every effort made (no matter how small) is better than no effort at all.
There are people who don't seem to care about coral reefs or marine mammals and how litter, oil spills, drilling and pipelines affect them.
I understand its not an easy task connecting "Captains of Industry" to the beauty and fragility of our oceans but perhaps the idea that there are bodies and graves of WWII servicemen in these very same waters may resonate with them.
There are countless companies dredging the oceans on a daily basis with no regard for the destruction they are causing.
I am of the opinion that if we as individuals can afford to mount
expeditions to find treasure, space junk, wrecks and more, we should go
in search of bodies which litter our oceans. These bodies are related to
people and have a history and story which should be told. I feel this
is the real discovery and exploration, going in search of the families
to whom these souls belong to. It should also make us aware of all the
destruction we are causing in our oceans as we are not just killing
marine life and eco systems we are disturbing grave sites!
Pacific Panama Canal Zone to its patrol station in company of submarines
S-21, S-29, S-44 and their escort vessel, 154’ long PC-460. At 22:10
the escort vessel sent a visual message to the submarines that she was
leaving the formation and that they should proceed on their assigned
mission. The S-21 was the only submarine to receive this message. and
shortly thereafter in the darkness of night, PC-460 mistook submarine

The message read that they were trapped inside the three middle
compartments awaiting rescue. Tragically these men sat for days in their
“ocean coffin" waiting for a rescue that never came. They remain
entombed on the ocean floor as we mark the 75th anniversary of the

We live in a great country "Make America Great Again" is incorrect - we need to "KEEP AMERICA GREAT"!
How do we do this ? through exercising our constitutional rights and freedoms, preaching and teaching tolerance, working together to move ahead and not backwards, standing up for what we believe in!
There are millions of people
around the world without rights who face persecution for many of the
freedoms we take for granted as part of our everyday lives.
The First Amendment allows us freedom of speech... Saturday, January 21, 2017 was a momentous day across the country and parts of the world as men, women and children took part in peaceful marches to show solidarity for protection of our civil rights.

We as a nation are entering a new phase in government that will affect our daily lives and we need to work as a collective to protect each other, our rights and freedoms.....March on and be heard, its your constitutional right!
His personal story is one of diverse ethnicity, education, class and humility. He represents what makes America great!
As we move forward into a state of uncertainty, may we as a country move forward and not backwards.
May we continue to embrace our differences as people of various religions, colors and languages as this is what has made America a great country.

May we move towards working together and not against each other and most importantly may we learn to be tolerant and not hate.
If we look around the world, at all of the war torn regions that are destroying their own people we should strive to be better and kinder to each other and not insight divisiveness.
We are all in this together and fighting each other should not be an option.. we have much to achieve for the betterment of all of our lives and those of our children.
The United States has come a long way from the days of slavery and lack of women's rights, the future should not take us back to our past.
Education and open minds are needed and may we look towards leaders that will keep us on the right path.
There is no point in downplaying outside space in an urban setting. New York City in particular has limited green spaces and many apartments look out over neighbors, noisy streets and alleys..
However, outside spaces / terraces can be found when shopping for apartments and they are worth every penny and your sanity. My good friends Bettina and George Nelson are fabulous real estate specialists and can find NYC gems in the best neighborhoods. They have educated me on the good vs bad of NYC real estate and TERRACES are NEVER BAD!
This year the Christmas tree made its home on the terrace and it has made for great chilly nights wrapped in warm Red Fox Jackets sipping hot cocoa and vin chaud. Friends have enjoyed the outdoorsy entertainment option as it has not been all that cold in NYC.
If you have outside space you USE it as often as you can and if you are a cold weather person ( as I am) the chill in the air makes it more fun!! The added benefit is there is NO shoveling of snow on terraces.
Saturday brought an unexpected 6 inches of snow to NYC and Central Park
was glorious for those of us who trekked through the park with our snow
dogs.
Its a lot of work but also worth the time and energy to enjoy their company and keep them happy and well fed.
My husky Ginger will play in snow as long as she can sleep well after her play...I think she sorts it out fairly well and seems to have a very Apres Ski attitude ( play hard in snow and relax well apres)
At the end of the day the more outside time a city dweller can have, the better. Its all about mental and physical health and if you get out and brave the chill you will be invigorated to do more and keep moving !
I have watched this woman for months with great intrigue and suspense regarding her choice of wardrobe for all the daily media appearances and meetings she attends.

I am impressed with her ability to keep going but her attire and sense of style (or lack thereof ) baffles and disturbs me.

I will say that as a New Yorker I understand we are not always kind to our New Jersey neighbors and any commentary on Kellyanne has nothing to do with her being from the Garden State. While this is not my disclaimer, I have heard "other" New York women make the odd comment about Kellyanne being a "Jersey girl" therefore she wears what she wears but I am just not sure about this.

Am I alone on this ? Where is Michael Kors? What does Andre Leon Talley say about her style? I actually ran into Andre years ago when the Tom Ford Boutique on Madison opened - he came dashing out of the store and ran into me, he was tall and fabulous- He knows style!
